Line-item properties
Order note attributes
Order metafields
Product metafields
Variant metafields
Customers
Customer metafields
Tip: If a third-party app writes custom data to Shopify metafields, attributes, or line-item properties, you can include it in these reports.
Before you start
You’ll need access to the Reports Library and permission to view the relevant Shopify objects.
Ensure your store data is synced. If not, you’ll see a Sync now prompt when you try to add properties (see Step 5) or sync from settings > data sync options.
Create or open a Custom Property Report
Go to Library → Custom Property Open any pre-created report in the Custom Property category. We include a few related fields by default to get you started.
Open the Custom Property panel In the report header, the Custom Property button will be highlighted. Click it to add property fields.
Select the Property Type Choose where the custom data lives, e.g.:
Order metafield
Order note attribute
Line-item property
Product metafield
Variant metafield
Customer metafield
Choose the Key and Column name
Key: the exact property/metafield key (e.g., engraving_text, custom.gift_message).
Column name: how it will appear in the report.
Handle data sync (if prompted)
If any source isn’t synced yet, you’ll see a Sync now link. Click it to start syncing.
Syncs typically complete in a few minutes.
Once complete, return to the report and continue adding properties.
Save the configuration After all required sections are filled (Property Type + Key + Column name), click Save. The field is added to your report.
Verify the data Check a few rows to confirm values are populating as expected. Add, reorder, or remove fields as needed.
Examples
Gift message on order line items
Property Type: Line-item property
Key: gift_message
Column name: Gift Message
Personalization text (variant)
Property Type: Variant metafield
Key: custom.personalization_text
Column name: Personalization
Troubleshooting
I don’t see values for a field.
Confirm you selected the right Property Type (e.g., product vs. variant metafield).
Verify the key is correct (namespace.key for metafields).
Make sure the data exists in Shopify (check a known record in admin).
If prompted earlier, ensure the sync finished, then refresh the report.
“Sync now” keeps appearing.
Start the sync from the prompt and give it a few minutes.
If it persists, re-open the report and try again. If still stuck, contact support with the object type and key.
FAQ
Can I add multiple custom properties at once? A: Yes. Repeat the add-field steps for each key you want in the report.
Do third-party app fields show up automatically? A: If the app writes to Shopify (metafields, attributes, line-item properties), they’ll appear after a successful sync.
What if my app stores data outside Shopify? A: Only data written into Shopify’s objects is reportable here. Ask the app to sync into Shopify or consider an integration that does.
