# How to run a report from the Library in Claude

You do not need to have built a report before you can analyse something in Claude. Report Pundit ships with a **Library** of ready-made reports covering sales, inventory, fulfilment, tax, products, payouts and more, and Claude can search it, run one and analyse the results in a single conversation.

This is the fastest route if you have just installed Report Pundit, or if you need to look at something you have never reported on before.

### Before you start

Report Pundit connected to Claude, and the connector switched on for your conversation. See [How to connect Report Pundit to Claude](https://claude.ai/connect-report-pundit-to-claude).

### Step 1: Ask Claude what is available

Describe what you want to know, not what you think the report is called.

> Is there a Report Pundit report for inventory on hand?

> What Report Pundit reports are available for tax?

> Do you have anything for orders that are paid but not shipped?

Claude searches the Library and comes back with matching reports, each with its name and category. It searches names, descriptions, categories and tags, so a plain business description usually finds the right thing.

Use the words a shopkeeper would use rather than your internal shorthand. "Unshipped orders" or "orders awaiting fulfilment" will find something. Your team's name for the same thing probably will not.

### Step 2: Run one straight away

Ask for it by the name Claude gave you.

> Run the Orders Paid But Not Fulfilled report.

You can add a period in the same message, and you can ask your question at the same time:

> Run the Total Products Sold report for August and show me the top 20 by units.

Claude runs it and reads the results into your conversation, exactly as it does with your own reports.

### A new report appears in My Reports

The first time you run a Library report through Claude, a copy of it is saved to your **My Reports** page. This is deliberate, not a side effect. It means:

* The report is now yours. You can open it in Report Pundit, run it, schedule it, or edit it.
* Running it again through Claude reuses that same report rather than making another copy. You will not end up with a pile of duplicates.

If you have never seen this behaviour before, a report appearing in your list can look like something went wrong. It has not.

### Save a report for later without running it

If you want the report in your account but do not need the data right now:

> Create a report from the Total Products Sold template and call it Monthly Units Sold.

Give it a name you will recognise later. A few characters are not allowed in report names and are replaced with spaces, so if the name comes back looking slightly different from what you typed, that is why.

### Step 3: Use it like any of your own reports

Once the report is in **My Reports**, everything in the rest of this guide applies to it:

* Run it for any period. See [How to run a report for a different date range in Claude](https://claude.ai/change-date-range-in-claude).
* Check its fields and filters before analysing. See [How to pull a report into Claude](https://claude.ai/pull-saved-report-into-claude).
* Ask analysis questions of it. See [Questions to ask Claude about your Shopify reports](https://claude.ai/claude-analysis-questions).

> What fields and filters does my Monthly Units Sold report use?

That last question is worth asking on any Library report before you rely on the numbers. A ready-made report is built for a general case, and the filters and fields chosen for that general case may not match yours.

### Changing what a Library report contains

Claude can run Library reports and save them to your account. It cannot change what is in them.

To add a field, adjust a filter or change the sort, open the report in Report Pundit under **My Reports** and edit it there. The next time Claude runs it, it picks up your changes.

### What the Library covers

The Library is organised by category, including:

* **Sales and Order Reports**, for orders, revenue and cash tracking
* **Product and Variant Reports**, for units sold, product lists and variant detail
* **Inventory Reports**, including transfers and shipments
* **Fulfillment Reports**, for unshipped and partially shipped orders, and shipping detail
* **Tax Report**, including country-level, Canadian and IOSS tax reports
* **Customer Journey Reports**, including sales by UTM campaign
* **Tag Report**, for sales attributed to product tags
* **Payout reconciliation**, for the order line item detail behind each payout

To browse rather than search, ask:

> What Report Pundit report categories are available?

For the full list in the app, open **Library** in the top navigation.

### Common problems

**Claude finds nothing for your keyword.** Try the business term instead of your internal one, or search a category: "what inventory reports are available?" If nothing fits, the Library may not cover it, and you can build the report yourself in Report Pundit.

**Claude suggests several similar reports.** Ask what the difference is before running one:

> What is the difference between those two, and which one includes refunds?

**The report ran but the numbers are not what you expected.** Check its fields and filters. A ready-made report is a starting point, and its assumptions may not be yours.

**You wanted your own report, not a Library one.** Say so explicitly:

> List my own Report Pundit reports, not Library ones.
